Our Why: Empowering Athletes. Building Character. Inspiring Passion.

At Nebraska Power Volleyball, our mission goes far beyond the scoreboard. Yes, we teach the fundamentals of volleyball—how to pass, set, hit, and serve with confidence. But our “why” runs deeper. We exist to empower athletes, build character, and inspire passion—on the court and in life—guided by our founders Christian values that shape how we coach, lead, and serve.

Empowering Athletes

Empowerment starts with belief—and for us, that belief begins with knowing that every athlete is unique, valued, and capable of greatness. Each girl who walks into our gym brings her own strengths, stories, and dreams. Our job is to help her see that potential and step boldly into it.

Through positive coaching, clear feedback, and individualized attention, we help athletes grow not just as players, but as young women of purpose and confidence. When players understand their “why,” they start to see that power isn’t just about how hard you hit—it’s about resilience, effort, and heart. Because empowered athletes become confident leaders—ready to make an impact in school, sports, and their communities.

Building Character

Volleyball is the ultimate teacher of character. Every rally tests your ability to respond under pressure, trust your team, and bounce back after mistakes. At Nebraska Power, we build teams where accountability, humility, and respect are lived out daily.

We believe character is what you show when no one’s watching. It’s choosing kindness, practicing gratitude, and doing the right thing even when it’s hard. Those values—rooted in our faith—guide how we treat others, how we compete, and how we serve. They’re not something we preach; they’re something we practice.

Inspiring Passion

Passion fuels everything we do. It’s the spark that keeps a player hustling after every ball, the energy that fills the gym, and the joy that makes her want to come back again tomorrow. We believe that when athletes play with purpose and joy, they grow in confidence and love for the game.

Our coaches model that same enthusiasm, blending technical instruction with genuine care and excitement for the sport. We want every athlete to leave our program with a lifelong love of volleyball and the confidence to pursue her goals with heart.

The Heart Behind Nebraska Power

Coach Paul Wright has been playing, coaching and officiating volleyball for over 20 years. It’s both his talent and his passion, and it shows in the way he teaches, challenges, and inspires every athlete who steps onto the court.  As a dedicated high school teacher, he is uniquely positioned to also truly understand the minds and challenges our youth athletes face on and off the court.

Director Jen Helms brings years of experience as both a devoted competitive sports mom and a seasoned business leader.   She has raised two young men who grew up playing in various Omaha area sports organizations where she was not only their number one fan, she also served on boards, held “team mom” positions, managed the business operations and fundraising for their teams.

Together, we’ve combined our talents, careers, and faith into this incredible adventure called Nebraska Power Volleyball Club—a place where skill development, leadership, and community come together.

Our Methodist Christian faith is part of who we are—it’s what grounds us, shapes how we treat others, and reminds us that every player matters. But we want to be clear: we’re not here to preach to your children. We’re here to coach, to encourage, and to help athletes and their parents get to know Paul and Jen as real people who care deeply about them and this sport.

Our hope is that players and families simply see the heart behind how we lead—with integrity, compassion, and purpose.

Our Promise

Nebraska Power Volleyball is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to making the game accessible and meaningful for more athletes in the Omaha area. We’re not here to profit off potential—we’re here to create opportunity, build community, and develop complete athletes grounded in confidence, character, and care.

Our “why” is simple but powerful: Empowering Athletes. Building Character. Inspiring Passion. Because when you build strong athletes—and surround them with coaches who lead with heart—you build strong people who make a difference in the world.
